A letter to the Parents/Guardians of Kindergartners from the Transportation Director
Dear Parent/Guardian of a Kindergartner child,
I would like to welcome you and your child to the Messalonskee School District. We realize that this is a major step in your child’s life and also a major impact on the parents. It is our goal to insure a safe and enjoyable ride to school on the first day of school and everyday thereafter.
Safety on and off the bus starts at home. I would ask that you take the time to read this pamphlet and sit down with your child and explain the safety tips prior to the opening day of school. It is important to periodically review these safety tips with your child from time to time.
On the opening day of school your child will be given a color code ribbon that will be color coded to the color code on the front side of each bus window. I would suggest that you have your child wear the ribbon for at least the first week of school. It would also be helpful for your child to ride the bus on the very first day of school. This enables us to immediately make sure that he/she is on the correct bus. Also, please notify the school secretaries if there are changes in pick up or drop off destinations.
There is also a section in the pamphlet dealing with the bus routes for the Oakland area. If you have any questions call us at the Transportation office, and we will gladly help. The office hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
If there were an issue on the bus, I would suggest that you try to contact the driver first. If the issue continues or you’re not happy with the resolution, please feel free to contact me or call the school regarding the issue. In the past, we have found that usually issues can be corrected the quickest and easiest directly between parents and drivers.
In closing, I state to my drivers at the beginning of every year that we are the first individuals representing the school district to greet these students in the morning and start their day on a positive note. It is my hope, and I will continue to strive, to insure a safe and enjoyable experience on the school bus. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Lennie Goff
Transportation Director
