Statement of Purpose
Messalonskee High School is committed to helping each student entrusted to its care to become a well-adjusted, informed, productive, and responsible citizen of the world community. To further this end, our educators, parents, and citizens are dedicated to offering a liberal education built on a flexible, integrated curriculum which not only stresses the basics of learning and respects the integrity of the traditional disciplines, but also emphasizes the interrelation of subject areas. Moreover, we believe the school and the community must encourage students to value their education, to meet high standards of ethical conduct, and to make responsible decisions. It is the responsibility of the school to challenge all students to achieve their fullest potential, to develop intellectual curiosity, to create a positive sense of themselves, and to recognize the intrinsic value of every person. We are committed to promoting opportunities for academic and social success for all students. We strive to help each student acquire a strong foundation of knowledge and skills and become aware of the potential of every human being. A Messalonskee education promotes life-long learning and helps students adapt to an increasingly complex world. Graduation RequirementsTo receive a Messalonskee High School diploma a student must complete the following core courses, pass the course comprehensive exams, and demonstrate the ability to research and present information in a curriculum research project.
